Religion:
Creation Story: Long ago, before Everything, even Existence, there was a Nothing so deep it did not have a Name, for if it had a Name, it would have been Something, for Everything has a Name, and Everything is Something. Then suddenly, there was Something: a speck of Light, the First Light, that shown into the newborn Darkness. This Light divided into other, smaller Lights, and each of those Lights divided even more. One Light became Earth, one Light became the Sky, and one became the Seas, which filled up all the remaining crevices that neither Earth nor Sky could fill. All the other Lights became all the different animals, plants, and other things, and each Light would divide up further to create similar animals, plants, and things (I.E one Light dividing into smaller Lights, and those Lights all becoming different kinds of fish). One of the Big Lights became the Sun, and the other became the Moon. From the Sun and Moon, the Special Lights came. These Lights turned became absorbed into some of the animals that already roamed, and those animals became the Keepers. Each Keeper had a different area which he or she kept, and today, they still watch over the world to keep it in Balance. All the leftover lights were placed into the sky to become stars.
Fox Keeper: Famble
Male
Keeper of Time, Stealth, and Nervousness.
A popular story about Famble is when, at the Beginning, he altered Time to place a Light into the Time before Existence, creating the First Light, and ensuring the Universe would Exist. He is also the reason why people age, as he was afraid that, if no-one died, they would all gang up on him and steal Time.
Wolf Keeper: Wilier
Female
Keeper of the Hunt, Family, and Sun, as well as War
Wilier is said to make the Sun and Moon be in the sky in an alternating pattern to create a rift between nocturnal animals and diurnal animals, hoping to cause a war. It didn't work, but by the time this was apparent, it was to late to change back to Sun and Moon being in the sky at the same time.
Raven Keeper: Raverian
Male
Keeper of the Moon, Order, Sky, and Intelligence ((self promotion much))
Raverian was once bullied into only raising the Moon when the Sun had set by Wilier. He also created the social hierarchy that the crows and Ravens adopted. The flapping of his wings causes the phases of the Moon.
Deer Keeper: Daquerian
Female
Keeper of the Wild, Earth, Balance, and Growth, as well as Life and Death
Daquerian is said to be the only one of the Keepers that takes on a natural form and walks on Earth. To see her at birth means a life of great Luck, to see her beyond that means imminent Death.
Albatross Keeper: Alverack
Male
Keeper of Wind, Good Luck, and Bad Luck, as well as Weather and Communication.
Alverack is the messenger of the Keepers, and uses the wind to speed his flight.
Cougar Keeper: Crasvera
Female
Keeper of Silence, Balance, and Forethought (telekinesis, being a prophet/ oracle, dreamseers, etc)
Not much is known about Crasvera, except that those she appears to, be it in dream, mind, or reality, are gifted in the art of Forethought.
Minnow Keeper: Minery
No gender, its a fish (fish are thought to have no gender among the Ravens)
Keeper of the Sea, Bounty, and Feast, as well as Fear and Misery
Those who think that Minery is just a joke on part of the Lights (a Minnow being the Keeper of Fear and Misery? Ha!) often disappear, never to be seen again. Though it is said that on still, dark nights, you can hear the screams of those he has stolen.
There are many other stories besides, these, but I think I would let the people who roleplay come up with them to get more variety than what I could write.
Animals who have a Keeper named after them are always capitalized (Fox instead of fox, Wolf instead of wolf, etc), and certain concepts are also always capitalized: Sun, Moon Existence, Nothing, Name, Keeper, the Sea, the Sky, the Earth, Wind, Luck, Life, Death, Light, Dark, Feast, Famine, Bounty, Silence, Balance, Order (Balance and Order are considered different things), Forethought, Fear, Misery, Joy/ Happiness, Wind, Weather, Communication, Intelligence, Wild, Growth, and basically anything else that goes into this kind of category.
Hierarchy: From lowest to highest, marked in the complexity of your back- paint
Cran-Cavar: Even lower than Craelevs, they can't even get work, and are often forced to eat last (if at all) at carcasses, often starve to death or re killed for sport before they are halfway through their lives. They often have a band on one of their ankles that is the same color as their masters clan.
Craelev: Basically a slave, how they are treated depends on the master, and ranges from only being fed once a month to being a family member.
Crackle: Incredibly poor Raven, are often very skinny and get the worst jobs within a flock.
Craesver: Lower middle class, most can afford to have a mate and a small, shabby nest. (think of ghetto- type things)
Cranvera: Upper middle class, they often have moderately sized nests and maybe one or two Craelevs, think of gated communities.
Transever: Very rich Ravens, often control the government of their flock, and have many Craelevs, They have multiple mates, and can own entire trees or cliff faces for their nests.
Traver: A council member, they are usually from a Cravera or Transever clan, they make the laws and pass judgment on lawbreakers.
Cravleer: Messenger Ravens. They carry messages between flocks, and barely ever have mates or nests, as they are constantly on the move. They often have incredible flying abilities, and they don't stop delivering until they die or become a Crave. Very Highly respected and can come from any rank.
Trapel: They are the priests/ priestesses of the Raven world, also very highly respected. They live in groups inside the caves they hold services in.
Gracka-vel: A Raven gifted in Forethought, they live in the same caves as the Trapels, and are pampered beyond even the most spoiled Transever. They are also highly feared.
Siences: Ravens, due to their ability to fly, have figured out that the Earth is round and that it revolves around the Sun, and the Moon revolves around the Earth, but they still think the Sky encircles the Sun, Moon, and Earth, and that the Stars are just pinpricks of Light coming from holes in the Sky. They also have a very crude form of written language that is more like cave painting than anything. Only Trapels are taught in this, and they paint pictures in their caves to tell stories. They make their paint from a mixture of berries, leaves, and mud, making it very dull, but easy to see on feathers. All Ravens can do this, and the complexity of the pattern on your back tells what rank you are, and the color what clan.
Social:
A clan is a group of related Ravens; each clan has its own paint color. A flock is a group of clans.
Only males keep their clan when taking a mate, like how a woman loses her maiden name when wed. However, females remain having close ties with their parent clan. Chucks are usually raised by all the Ravens within a clan.
New clans can start when a young Raven completely leaves his or her flock and becomes a rouge while looking for a mate. If he or she chooses a mate that is also a rouge, then a new clan is formed. Some clans can become Wandering clans, which never settle into a flock and remain traveling. Wandering clans can, and often will, become roving bands of bandits, stealing from outside flocks and clans. These kinds of Wandering clans will often accept new members into the clan without them actually choosing a mate from that clan. Each clan has a name, though the higher rank you are, the more complex your clan name is. Clans are often composed of Ravens entirely in one rank, and being born into a crappy rank means that your sort of stuck there unless you do something amazing to move up ranks. When a Raven moves up in rank, there is a large ceremony held by the council that the whole flock comes to watch where a new back pattern is painted on.
Status with Wolves: Ravens have more of a business relationship with the wolves, meaning the Ravens help the wolves find prey, the Wolves kill the prey, and they all eat said prey. The Ravens will also guide Wolves to already dead animals so that the Wolves can open the carcass, which is something the Ravens can't do on their own. Other than that, they rarely interact, and they don't help each other in Wars.
